Organ Recital by Christopher Rathbone

The organ recital on Friday 3 May at 12.30 pm features two large-scale works by continental Romantic composers, Josef Rheinberger (born in Leichtenstein, worked in Munich) wrote 20 sonatas (he planned to write 24, one in each key!) Here is Sonata no 5 in F sharp minor, in three movements: a fugal first, a lovely Adagio which turns into a scherzo before reverting to the Adagio, and a fairly brief Finale (almost entirely in F sharp major. The second piece is the familiar and superb Chorale no 2 by Franck (born in Liège but working in Paris.)
