A few days after  they had been blest and dedicated at a Mass in the Lady Chapel, the retired Bramhope-based businessman returned to the church last Sunday, Michaelmas, to witness Fr Philip wear them for the first time.

Afterwards Brian recalled ‘many happy years worshipping in this splendid building and acting as Master of Ceremonies many times – a wonderful experience. I feel very fortunate to have been part of this warm-hearted congregation for over a decade.’

Fr Philip thanked him for his great generosity in providing a permanent reminder of his great contribution to the church’s spiritual development in his time among us.

After the Mass two of our long-standing friends, Fr Alan Brown and Mr Chris Mollander, provided wine to enable us to send them off in style to a new life at Scalby, near Scarborough, where they moved to on Tuesday.

Fr Alan came to our parish in 1976, two years after Chris, and they would like their many friends to keep in touch. Their address is: Argyll Lodge, High Street, Scalby, North Yorkshire, YO13 OPT (phone 01723 503340).
